Toils and Terrors

       How do you, as a nation, direct the natural passions and desires for life innate in every man, towards the aims of your industry? How do u harness the individual spirits of millions, directing the input of their energies into the grind that creates the outputs of your imperialist needs? You create consumerism. Instill within the minds of millions, the ideal of "want". Replace the sense of communality with the anxiety driven separation of self interest.  Create within the set of drives that push and pull them, a sense of perpetual demand. If you can influence within the minds of men, what they do and don't perceive as a "reward" in this life- whether that be spiritual, physical, or material- Therein lies your power. Insatiably within them will be your greatest victory, as they rise and fall each day in an endless cycle of sacrifice and competition- all motivated by the perception of gain, denoted by the newest possession framed as a "reward" for their efforts. And so they'll scramble on, each day grinding your wheel forward with their collective terrors and toils. Each day they'll lie crushed in defeat, without even being aware of it. And instead, they’ll cluelessly partake in their own spiritual downfall, living on as minions of materialism.
